Why Has JoSAA Not Declared the Results of the 3rd Round Until Now?

The Current Status: JoSAA and IIT Kanpur

A recent aspirant has raised concerns in the Madras High Court regarding the JEE Advanced examination, leading to an order for IIT Kanpur to reform the rank list. In response, IIT Kanpur has put JoSAA Round 3 Counseling 2018 on hold. While the situation is still evolving, it is under the jurisdiction of the high court and IIT Kanpur.

As of the latest news, which was approximately 8 hours ago, IIT Kanpur has halted the JoSAA Round 3 counseling. The JEE authorities anticipate taking 1-2 days to make any necessary decisions. This action will not affect rankings in NITs, IITs, and GFTIs. However, if the current order is not negated, overturned, or stayed, the process might restart, leading to a delay of about 3-4 weeks. On the optimistic side, the authorities may receive a relief and move forward within a week, resolving the issue sooner.

The Legal Backdrop

MADRAS HIGH COURT has instructed IIT-Kanpur to prepare a fresh rank list for JEE ADVANCE, considering the instructions given to the candidates on the day of the exam, May 20, 2018, and not based on the clarification issued after the exam on May 21, 2018.

However, IIT-K is facing some reluctance in adhering to these court orders. Consequently, it has requested the Madras High Court to reconsider its decision. IIT-Kanpur submitted an appeal to the Division Bench of Hon'ble Madras High Court, and the task of document verification and counseling has been put on hold.

The Impact on Applicants

Given the ongoing legal proceedings, applicants should anticipate a delay in the 3rd round of JoSAA results. While communication channels remain open, the exact timing of the results is uncertain. As of the latest updates, the authorities expect the results to be released tomorrow, but this is subject to the final resolution of the legal issues.

The process of document verification and seat acceptance will also remain suspended until the court provides appropriate orders. Consequently, students must wait for these orders before proceeding with their seat allotment.

Hopeful Resolution

While the exact outcome is uncertain, there is hope that the issues will be resolved soon. So far, there have been no negative impacts on the rankings, and the JEE authorities are working towards a swift resolution. Applicants are advised to stay informed and monitor official communications from JoSAA and IIT Kanpur for further updates.
