The Debater Who Cannot Be Taken Seriously
There are so many people in the world. I cannot reveal specifically who they are, but I respect and appreciate their presence in my life. However, there's one debater whose arguments I find difficult to take seriously.
A Moment of Skepticism
The other day, after finishing a debate about the motion 'THBT Fairy Tales are a negative influence on children,' my fellow debater, who was in opposition, continued to argue that fairy tales reduce rape cases, hence making them a positive influence. Let's be clear about the motion: it was a discussion about the impact of fairy tales on children, not their effect on crime rates. I found this argument puzzling and perhaps a bit absurd, to put it mildly.
The Oxymoron of Serious Debaters
Since that day, I simply could not take him seriously. Instead, I sat there with my 11th edition Oxford Dictionary to prove his arguments wrong. It was a simple matter of definitions: I argued that the majority required 51 or more votes, whereas he insisted it was 50. This coarse example illustrates why his points were often a waste of time.
Lenient Liberals or Arrogant Ones?
There are those who call themselves liberals, yet appear to think they know everything. These individuals can be incredibly overbearing and sometimes do not know better. If I were to characterize them, they often seem to miss the nuance and context needed to make informed arguments.
Political Compromise and the Deterioration of Political Culture
When it comes to politicians from either side, I couldn't care less about their actions. Their job isn't to fix problems—it's to get reelected, after which they blame all their problems on the other side. It's become disheartening. I remember a time when politicians made compromises to get laws passed without being labeled traitors. Unfortunately, that ethos seems long gone.
Avoiding Lies and Misleading Influences
A person who constantly feeds you lies is a substantial risk. They can be difficult to trust and rely on. Similarly, an abyssal liar is not someone who is truly committed to your wellbeing. If someone promises to help you with issues and fails to do so, it shows a lack of respect and consideration for your needs. It’s important to distance yourself from such individuals because it often reflects their true nature and level of care.
Always be vigilant in identifying those who cannot be taken seriously. Whether it’s in personal relationships, politics, or any other context, clarity and truth are paramount.
