As a concrete example, I was laid off from my full-time reporting gig at 25. The loss of my only life aspiration left me feeling crushed and with no clear path forward. I ended up barely able to afford a room, lost my secondary job a few months later, and had no idea how I would survive. However, I shifted gears and found a program that allowed me to earn my teaching credential while simultaneously earning my master's degree. Although this meant juggling a crazy 14 months with three jobs, for the first time in my life, I felt like I had a real shot at some hope and security. I am 26 and looking at being completely independent and self-supporting with a meaningful career by 27-28. It is never too late.
