My Journey Through 50 American States: An American's Perspective
As an American, my life has spanned numerous states, each with its unique charm and characteristics. From those I have lived in to the ones I have visited, my experiences across the country have been nothing short of extraordinary. In this article, I will share my journey through 50 American states and discuss the various experiences that come with exploring such vast and diverse landscapes.
States I Have Lived In
I currently reside in California, a state synonymous with sunshine and innovation. However, my life has also taken me to numerous other states. Since moving to California, I have been fortunate to visit Nevada and Arizona, two states renowned for their rugged landscapes and breathtaking vistas.
My history with other states extends beyond just visiting. I once lived in Pennsylvania and had family connections in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maine. Beyond these, I've been to or passed through New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. My family tree also encompasses Colorado, and I have even experienced a brief connection to Texas via a layover. Lastly, I admit to having occasionally visited the District of Columbia and Hawaii, further expanding my horizons.
Counting the States I Have Explored
To date, I have visited 40 or 41 states, excluding brief layovers at airports. This journey through states has been a diverse one, covering a total of 14 states apart from California. However, my ambition has always been higher, aiming for all 50 states. This accomplishment was achieved 20 years ago, and it is described as one of the easiest parts of my bucket list. I'm proud to have achieved this, and it sets the stage for sharing my experiences.
Unique Travel Experiences
One of the most memorable experiences for me was visiting all 50 states. I accomplished this by stepping across the border into North Dakota from South Dakota in the middle of nowhere, marking the 50th state in my travels. This event made me the 14th and 15th person in my family to achieve this milestone, tracing back to my grandparents who did so in 1982. This moment was a significant achievement that filled me with a sense of national pride and adventure.
Returning to Each State
Since completing this ambitious goal, I have revisited each state at least 11 times, with many visits exceeding 30 times. This experience has only deepened my appreciation for the diversity of the United States. I strongly recommend that every American take the time to see all 50 states. The scenic beauty, rich cuisine, and cultural points of interest across the country are unparalleled. Additionally, I encourage international travelers to experience this journey as well. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me, and I believe it will be just as enriching for others.
I have found that seeing all of America is one of the most valuable experiences I have ever undertaken. Whether you're an American or an international traveler, I encourage you to embrace this journey and see what the United States has to offer.
