My AIIMS Raipur Student Experience: From Freshman to Clinical Years
Feeling a mix of anxiety and excitement as part of the very first batch, I joined the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur in 2020. Here, my journey at AIIMS has been an enriching and unforgettable experience.
Freshman Year: Adjusting to College Life
Upon arrival, the first challenge was a mandatory 7-day quarantine followed by orientation classes for a month. My first glimpse of the college life came with an inauguration ceremony on January 13th, where I was handed my white coat. Participating in such a grand event while second-day students watched was truly exhilarating.
The inaugural event was followed by a Republic Day celebration. This event, attended by only 50 students with over 150 faculty members, including my batchmates’ teachers and children, was a memorable experience. The joy and patriotism on everyone’s face were contagious.
Academics and Fun: Balancing School and Social Life
Despite the challenges of being the first batch, our teachers supported us during our mid-semester exams. After these exams, the campus was alive with the spirit of Holi. Some managed to go home, while I stayed and enjoyed the celebrations. Post-Holi, we organized a Sports Meet and had birthday parties that went on until midnight.
Our year ended with a trip to Dharamshala, a transformative experience that deepened our sense of community and purpose. By November, we were promoted to second-year status, and classes resumed in December.
Second Year: Clinical Experience and Postings
Entering the clinical years was an exciting yet challenging journey. Our first clinical posting was at the Primary, Special, and Medical (PSM) facility. We visited various health centers, visited an old age home, orphanages, organized support for organizations that help the specially abled, and even learned about a milk plant. For the following postings, we delved into surgery, general medicine, pulmonary medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology.
A memorable trip to Shimla was part of the third semester, and Raju Pose, a well-known pose, became a fun tradition. The Holi celebration in the second year was filled with fun as we celebrated with juniors. The third semester ended with major exams, and the fourth semester saw additional clinical postings in psychiatry, pediatrics, dental, emergency, and dermatology.
Representing AIIMS Raipur
Our dedication to medical excellence did not go unnoticed. We performed skits to represent AIIMS Bilaspur, organized freshers' camps, and attended various fests, such as the stimulus annual fest at IGMC Shimla and Pulse 2022. The fifth semester has commenced, and we await the second prof exams by the end of February 2023.
Reflecting on my journey, AIIMS Raipur has been an incredible college choice. The experience has been nothing short of amazing, and I eagerly anticipate more enriching moments ahead.
