Experience at IIT Tirupati Hostels: Facilities and Conditions
IIT Tirupati offers a robust and well-structured accommodation system for its students, particularly for first-year freshers. The hostel conditions and facilities vary between the temporary and permanent campuses, with substantial improvements planned for the near future.
Temporary Campus Accommodation for Freshers
Freshers at IIT Tirupati are initially placed in the South Campus temporary accommodation, which provides a comfortable environment for a group of 3 or 4 students. For females, the hostels are named Kedar, while males are allocated to either Abheri or Bhairav hostels.
Room Conditions
Each Freshers' room comes with basic amenities, including a bed, cupboard, study desk, and chair. The spaces in the shared rooms are spacious, with only a few students allotted per room. For example, in a room meant for 4 students, only 3 may reside, and a room for 6 can accommodate up to 4 students.
Each hostel in the South Campus has two common rooms designed for communal use. These common rooms are equipped with air conditioning, televisions, sofas, tables, chairs, and refrigerators. Additionally, each floor has three Wi-Fi routers, ensuring adequate internet connectivity. Initial provisions do not include a LAN connection.
Security guards are on duty 24/7, and housekeeping staff visit every day to maintain cleanliness. Engineering units regularly inspect and maintain the facilities to ensure optimal conditions for the students.
Automated Facilities
A notable feature in the hostels is the presence of fully automated washing machines. Each hostel hosts two such machines, facilitating easy laundry services.
Mess and Other Facilities
A health center with Apollo Pharmacy is always open, providing 24/7 medical assistance, including general doctors and occasional visits from specialists. Both North and South Campuses offer a variety of facilities such as messes, stationery shops, gyms, general stores, cafeterias, food courts, and an open-air theater. A monthly cycle repair service is also provided by an external vendor.
Permanent Campus Hostels
The transition to permanent campuses is underway, with plans to have all girls' and boys' hostels in these facilities by July 2019. The new hostels are expected to provide a more luxurious and modern living environment for the students.
Current Status
Currently, most of the facilities are available in the temporary South Campus, although plans are in place to expand the amenities to the new permanent North Campus by July 2019.
Additional Information
The cleaning process in the hostels is carried out twice a week by professional cleaning staff. Toilets and bathrooms are meticulously maintained to ensure hygiene and cleanliness. The health center and Apollo Pharmacy are equipped to handle all healthcare needs, with various modes of assistance available 24/7.
On the ground floor of the hostels, an air-conditioned study room is available from 6 AM to 12 PM. This helps students who find the room temperature uncomfortable while studying. Both the mess and TV room are also air-conditioned for additional comfort.
Cleaning staff ensures that the rooms are maintained in a hygienic condition, and regular upkeep is carried out to provide a comfortable living space for the students.
