We recently traveled from Bangalore to Pondicherry on 01/04/2023 by car. Here are our experiences with the different routes:
Route 1: Bangalore - Krishnagiri - Vellore - Arani - Tindivanam - Puducherry
We found this route to be less favorable due to its slower pace, numerous tolls, and longer distance. After Vellore, the roads are quite narrow, and frequent stops through towns are necessary.
Route 2: Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Uthangarai - Tiruvannamalai - Gingee - Puducherry
Upon our return journey, we opted for this route and were pleasantly surprised by the improved road conditions. After Krishnagiri, the roads are of good quality, with less traffic, no tolls, and a shorter distance.
Conclusion
Both routes are viable options for traveling from Bangalore to Pondicherry. Route 2 via NH 77 offers a more efficient and smoother journey with fewer tolls. However, Route 1 via NH 48 can be a more scenic and culturally enriching experience. Choose the route that best suits your needs, and don’t forget to check traffic updates or use navigation apps for real-time guidance.
